BACK TO SCHOOL GLOUCESTER - Collecting donations now thru August 23rd
Back to School Gloucester is a community supported effort to help local children in need. We are partnering with Connected Communities, G.U.E.S.T., the Salvation Army and the many churches in the community to collect as many school supplies as possible. These supplies will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis to children in need from Kindergarten thru 12th grade at the event at the Gloucester Moose Lodge on August 24th. More info on the specific supplies needed is available here.
We are asking that all committees/groups participate in our monthly newsletter. The newsletter is both fun and informative! Submissions from your group could be an article written, an article read, a recipe, a joke, committee/group news, etc. Please submit to the church office by the 20th of each month.
We are in need of supplies weekly for our Food Pantry. Supplies needed are PB&J, spaghetti sauces, dry and canned milk, tuna, mayo, canned beef stews, canned meats, soups, pasta, canned tomatoes, cereal, canned veggies and fruits, and macaroni and cheese. Dollar Tree is a great resource for cereal and bread. Dollar General sells Clover Valley brand, which is very affordable for vegetables, pasta, sauce, and others items as well! If you are in need of a bag of food for your family, simply call on Monday's by 11:00AM, please your name on the list for pick up on Wednesday's between 9:30AM-10:30AM.
Electronic giving is now available at SWUMC. No more having to write a check or remembering offering envelopes! Sign up forms and instructions for the eTithes program are available in the atrium or from Vicki Barnes. Or, you can download the form here. Simply fill out the form, attach a voided check, place them in the envelope provided and put the envelope in the offering plate or give to Vicki. Or, you can mail it directly to the church office at P.O. Box 427, Ordinary, VA 23131. For more information, or if you have questions, please see Vicki Barnes or Julia Barnes.
Thank you for all the great support of the plastic recycling project. Our new bench has been ordered! However, we are continuing to collect plastic bags for a second bench. Again, we have six months to collect 500 pounds of plastic bags. PLEASE, NO plastic bottles and NO plastic food containers. The collection box is located in the atrium close to the women's restroom. Questions? See Ginny Miller.
